Where and when is street parking free?

Tampa street meters are free from midnight to 8 a.m. downtown, from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. in Ybor City and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. in Hyde Park; downtown north of Kennedy is also free on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Off the street, Ybor city lots 3, 5 and 6 give the first two hours free, then charge $2 an hour. The sign at your space still controls permits, time limits and closures.

Find the right zone

Downtown Sunday boundary: north of Kennedy Boulevard, which is excluded; south of and including Scott Street; east of and including Ashley Street; west of and including Nebraska Avenue. The Sunday 8 a.m.–2 p.m. exception is not citywide.

City parking code, §15-62 (PDF). Without specific hours posted on a meter or sign, the code's default is 24-hour operation, apart from that defined Sunday exception.

Armature Works has its own schedule; do not apply the Tampa Heights Sunday exception to it. Use the official city space and pay-station map to find a block and space number, then read its signs. The map locates spaces, not open ones.

Free periods in city lots

Ybor city lots 3, 5 and 6: the ordinary tariff starts with two hours at $0, then $2 per hour, with a $14 daily maximum. Friday and Saturday after 6 p.m. have a $15 flat rate. The city's rates page no longer states an end time we could confirm. Special-event or discretionary flat rates can replace the ordinary tariff; event rates apply until 6 a.m. These are lot rules, separate from Ybor street meters.

Lots 3 and 5 are on North 19th Street; Lot 6 is by East 8th Avenue and North 19th Street. Locate the Ybor city lots on the official map. Current city pages list the $0 first two hours but do not say whether that period needs a pay-station or app session, so follow the instructions on the lot signs and pay station. Mobile-payment transactions carry a convenience fee.

Cypress Point Park: for a park visit, city information lists free parking Monday–Friday until noon at 5620 W Cypress Street. The park opens at sunrise and closes at sunset; other parking hours are metered. This is not an overnight parking option.

Limits, holidays and accessible parking

• Stay limits and signs still apply. Check loading, residential-permit, disabled-space and temporary restrictions. There is no general two-hour free allowance for street meters. Paid city parking beyond 24 hours requires advance arrangements with the Parking Division; a shorter posted limit still controls.
• Holidays: we found no general holiday exemption in the current city hours or code, so follow the posted schedule.
• Eligible disabled permits: the city allows up to four hours without charge at time-restricted street meters when a valid disabled permit is properly displayed. This also applies in Ybor city lots 3, 5 and 6. No pay-station or app activation is required for this separate exemption. Other spaces and garages have different rules.
